Ashanti Region: One dead, three injured in galamsey pit collapse

A 23-year-old man, Osei Kwabena, tragically lost his life, and three others sustained injuries when an illegal mining pit, known as galamsey, collapsed at Nkonteng near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Monday, December 16.

Kwabena was trapped and could not be rescued, while the three injured individuals are receiving treatment at the Nkawie Government Hospital.

Koyim Mahama Iddrisu, Municipal Director of NADMO, confirmed that a local alerted them about the collapse.

Efforts by those nearby saved three, but the fourth victim was found dead.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue as investigations into the incident continue.
