Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Wontumi, will face prosecution if found guilty of illegal mining activities.

Reports have linked Wontumi’s Akonta Mining Company to illegal operations in the Nimri Tano Forest Reserve in the Amenfi West Municipality.

Although the company holds a lease for mining in Samreboi, it lacks authorization to mine in the protected reserve.

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that anyone, regardless of their social status, found involved in illegal mining will face the full legal consequences.

He assured that the government, working with local authorities, will take strict action on such matters.
