Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene has issued a strict two-week ultimatum for illegal miners operating in forests and water bodies to halt their activities or face legal action.
Reaffirming his commitment to protecting the region’s natural resources, Dr. Amoakohene warned that authorities would take decisive steps to restore order.
“If you’re mining in forest reserves or polluting water bodies, you have two weeks to stop,” he stated.
The minister pledged a coordinated crackdown, working with other regional authorities to ensure a comprehensive fight against illegal mining.
With the Ashanti Region heavily impacted by galamsey, enforcement actions have already begun, with the Environmental Protection Authority seizing mining equipment from illegal operators.
