Private legal practitioner and former NPP Deputy General Secretary, Obiri Boahen, has criticized Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to suspend MPs, calling it legally flawed and undemocratic.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio, he argued that the Speaker lacked the authority to take such action without granting a fair hearing. He questioned why three NPP MPs were suspended compared to only one from the NDC, suggesting a possible political motive to weaken the NPP’s numbers in Parliament.
Boahen commended the Minority Leader and MPs who opposed the decision and urged affected lawmakers to challenge it.
He maintained that suspending MPs before an investigation violates natural justice, describing the move as a *"mockery of democracy."*
