New Juaben South MP, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi, has defended the Minority’s disruptive actions during the Appointments Committee’s vetting on January 30 and 31, stating it was their only option to ensure transparency.

The heated session escalated into chaos, resulting in damage to parliamentary property.

Okyere Baafi explained that had the Minority exited, the Majority would have proceeded with the vetting unchallenged, limiting public scrutiny—particularly of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s nomination.

He admitted the disruption was regrettable but necessary to prevent an unchecked process.

In response, Parliament has launched an investigation into the incident, reviewing footage and testimonies to determine accountability and prevent future occurrences.
