Witness in vetting chaos defends actions, says he deserves praise, not condemnation

George Opeku Glory, a witness captured in the January 30 vetting chaos, has defended his involvement, stating that he acted to restore order when tensions erupted during the Appointments Committee’s proceedings.

Testifying before the ad-hoc committee investigating the incident, he insisted his intervention was a civic duty. However, the committee dismissed his justification, labeling him a “stranger” with no authority to interfere.

Opeku, who identified as a businessman with a vested interest in the vetting process, claimed he attended to support Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Communications Minister Sam George.

The fracas erupted after a dispute between the minority and majority over extending the vetting session, leading to a physical altercation.

The ad-hoc committee is set to present its findings to Speaker Alban Bagbin, while the minority has boycotted the hearings, alleging bias against the committee chair.
