Illegal miners, including Chinese and Ghanaian-led operators, have taken over 261 acres of land in the Breman-Adomanya forest area of Wassa Amenfi West, destroying timber trees, cocoa, and rubber farms while polluting the River Tano.

Despite police awareness, the miners continue their operations with impunity.

Journalists covering the devastation, including Citi News’ Western Regional Correspondent Akwasi Agyei Annim, were attacked by the galamseyers, who seized their equipment and detained them until police reinforcements arrived.

Local sources blame traditional authorities and security agencies for inaction, urging government intervention.

Meanwhile, the Asankrangwa Minerals Commission Officer declined to confirm whether companies involved in the destruction, including Ebegee and Dabena Mining, had permits, directing inquiries to Accra headquarters.
