Erastus Asare Donkor, a key advocate against illegal mining, has reported that Chinese miners arrested by Nkawkaw youth and handed over to the police have been released.
According to him, the miners have returned to the Gyare forest to continue their illegal activities.
In a social media post, Donkor stated, “The Nkawkaw District Police has released Chinese miners arrested by the youth. As we speak, they’ve gone back to mining illegally in the Gyare forest.”
Meanwhile, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Kofi Armah Buah has reiterated his commitment to fighting galamsey.
He has vowed to expose and shame high-profile individuals behind illegal mining to deter further destruction of Ghana’s forests and water bodies.
