The Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey (GCAG) has urged all presidential candidates in the 2024 elections to sign a national pledge against illegal and irresponsible mining (galamsey).
This call follows the recent signing of the 4th Presidential Peace Pact, highlighting the importance of unified action on key national issues.
The GCAG, which includes various stakeholders such as media, labor unions, religious groups, and businesses, has reached out to candidates, requesting their signatures.
The coalition emphasized that signing the pledge would demonstrate political commitment to tackling galamsey, which threatens the country’s environment and future.
GCAG will announce the candidates who have signed the pledge on December 5, 2024.
