Former Auditor-General and ORAL committee member, Daniel Domelevo, has called for stricter oversight of public officeholders to curb corruption and misuse of state resources.

Speaking after the committee submitted its report to President John Mahama, Domelevo expressed shock at the blatant abuse of power, where officials misappropriate public funds and allocate state assets to themselves or associates.

He lamented the lack of consequences, which fosters impunity. However, he welcomed the president’s firm stance on accountability, noting that the next steps will be crucial in recovering stolen funds.

He also commended Mahama’s introduction of OPAL, an initiative aimed at preventing future corruption, stressing that fighting graft should not only focus on past governments but also ensure ongoing reforms to seal financial leakages.
