The Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeyor Agyemang Badu II, has called on the Bono Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to arrest chiefs and individuals involved in illegal mining.

Speaking at a regional chiefs’ meeting in Sunyani, he emphasized the need for a non-partisan fight against galamsey, warning of potential food and water crises if it persists.

Galamsey has devastated communities like Banda Ahenkro and Tano Boasi, destroying cashew farms. He also urged the new Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, to address poor road networks and unemployment.

In response, Akwaboa pledged to work closely with traditional leaders to combat illegal mining, foster development, and ensure swift resolution of chieftaincy disputes for regional stability.
