Calls for stricter enforcement persist Calls for stricter enforcement persist

**Headline:**
Two young men lost their lives after a mining pit collapsed at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.

The victims were among seven miners working in the pit around 2 a.m. on January 8, 2025, when it caved in, trapping them.

Residents quickly launched rescue efforts, saving three individuals who were rushed to Saviour Memorial Hospital in Osiem. Tragically, two were pronounced dead, while one remains in critical condition.

A search team, including the National Intelligence Bureau and local authorities, found no additional survivors.

The deceased have been sent to Kyebi Government Hospital for autopsy.

Osino leaders decried ongoing illegal mining, citing dangers along the Accra-Kumasi Highway and under power pylons, while accusing police of inaction.

Calls for stricter enforcement persist.
