Fear mounts in Adaase as illegal mining threatens key installations

Residents fear these activities could undermine efforts to make Adaase a thriving residential hub Residents fear these activities could undermine efforts to make Adaase a thriving residential hub

Residents of Adaase, a farming community in Obuasi, are growing increasingly uneasy over the rise in illegal mining activities, which threaten critical infrastructure, including the Obuasi Airport and a military barracks under construction.

In a crackdown led by the Chief of Kwapia, Nana Kwabena Oyiakwan II, in collaboration with the Police and National Investigations Bureau, five illegal miners were arrested.

Nana Oyiakwan lamented that over 3,000 plots of land meant for a hostel facility were illegally allocated to miners, destroying farmlands and derailing the ‘Obuasi Goes Agro’ project. He also accused a former MCE of complicity and vowed legal action.

Residents fear these activities could undermine efforts to make Adaase a thriving residential hub, affecting economic prospects in the area.
