The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has condemned the recent violent clash between soldiers and illegal miners in Obuasi that led to seven deaths.

During a press conference in Accra, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing the need for peaceful engagement to resolve issues surrounding illegal mining.

While condemning the violence, he urged AngloGold Ashanti, the Military High Command, and local communities to foster constructive dialogue.

The GJA also called for the government to take decisive action to end the illegal mining crisis and reminded the public of the importance of peaceful, legal avenues for addressing grievances.

Additionally, the association showed solidarity with journalists facing harm while performing their duties and advocated for the protection of media freedom.
