Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey and Senyo Hosi of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining have pressed the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to intensify the fight against galamsey.

They demand investigations into politically connected mining firms, a state of emergency in nine affected forest reserves, and scrutiny of how illegal miners obtain firearms.

Dr. Ashigbey stressed that high-profile political figures must be held accountable for the battle against galamsey to succeed.

In response, Mr. Buah outlined government initiatives, including the Blue Water Initiative and the Tree for Life Reforestation program.

He assured the Coalition of a rigorous crackdown on illegal operators but emphasized the need for collective effort to restore Ghana’s degraded lands.
