Galamsey exposé forces environmental journalist into exile over life threats

Environmental journalist Erastus Asare Donkor of the Multimedia Group has revealed that he had to leave Ghana temporarily ahead of the 2024 elections due to threats on his life.

The threats came after his investigative reporting on illegal mining (galamsey), which angered certain individuals and put his safety at risk.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on February 1, Donkor shared the emotional toll of the situation, explaining that the threats ranged from verbal warnings to direct intimidation through private messages.

Despite his return to Ghana, the threats have persisted, forcing him to continue navigating a climate of fear.
