John Allotey, Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, has reported positive progress in efforts to combat illegal mining in forest reserves.
Speaking at the 27th Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Institute of Foresters in Kumasi, he credited the military’s deployment and other government actions for reducing the environmental damage caused by illegal mining.
Allotey highlighted the importance of recent interventions, including the repeal of LI 2462, in curbing illegal logging and mining activities.
While he acknowledged that the efforts have yielded results, he emphasized that it is an ongoing process, with continuous efforts to further reduce the impact on Ghana's forest reserves.
