President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his government's commitment to combating illegal mining (galamsey) due to its destructive impact on water bodies, farmlands, and the environment.
Speaking at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development’s (UESD) maiden congregation in Somanya, Eastern Region, he emphasized the use of responsible mining practices, community partnerships, and advanced technologies, like drone surveillance, in the fight against galamsey.
Akufo-Addo also highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change, citing its visible effects, including rising temperatures and water resource depletion.
He stressed that UESD is key to training professionals who will tackle environmental, social, and economic challenges, positioning Ghana as a leader in sustainable development.
