President John Mahama has announced that his government is set to implement the Nkokɔ Nketenkete poultry programme to support 55,000 households in egg and fresh poultry production.

Delivering his first State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, Mahama emphasized that the initiative aims to reduce Ghana’s reliance on poultry imports, which currently cost over $300 million annually.

The programme will focus on boosting local production by investing in hatcheries, feed mills, processing, and distribution. It also seeks to create jobs, provide affordable feed, and expand veterinary services.

A key 2024 NDC campaign promise, the initiative is expected to empower farmers and drive economic growth by enhancing self-sufficiency in poultry production.
