The Minority in Parliament has challenged President John Mahama’s justification for a 10% public sector wage increase, contrasting it with the previous administration’s 25% adjustment in 2024.
Responding to Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, Nhyiaeso MP Stephen Amoah argued that Ghana’s economy saw significant recovery under the former government, with real GDP growth exceeding 6% despite IMF austerity measures.
He highlighted that the 2024 wage increment aligned with a 23.8% inflation rate, showing a commitment to workers’ welfare.
The Minority questioned why the Mahama administration’s "reset economy" could not offer a higher wage increase under similar inflationary conditions, casting doubt on claims of inheriting a "criminally mismanaged" economy.
