Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, the MP for Gomoa Central, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of sabotaging the fight against illegal mining, or galamsey.
He claims that some members of the NPP have been fueling the resurgence of galamsey activities since President John Mahama assumed office, aiming to tarnish his reputation.
A Plus alleged that after Mahama's victory, NPP members returned to galamsey sites and ignored calls to cease their activities.
He further claimed that all galamsey operators are linked to the NPP, seeking to create the impression that Mahama needs gold for his Goldbod policy.
In addition, A Plus pointed out that the NPP had returned with excavators that had previously gone missing.
His remarks come after Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP Director of Communications, accused the NDC of not taking sufficient action against galamsey, suggesting that some within the party felt safe engaging in illegal mining under Mahama's leadership.
