The Convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Ken Ashigbey, has called on the Lands and Natural Resources Minister to reveal the names of individuals who import excavators into Ghana, arguing that such disclosures are vital to curbing illegal mining.
Speaking on TV3, Ashigbey stressed that identifying and exposing those funding illegal mining operations would cut off resources fueling the menace.
He urged authorities to track excavator chassis numbers and conduct financial investigations to trace the sources of funding.
He also warned that over 44 forest reserves have already been affected by galamsey, emphasizing the urgency of action.
While acknowledging government efforts, he admitted the current administration inherited a complex crisis that requires immediate attention.
