Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, the Omanhene of Wenchi, has issued a strong directive halting all illegal mining activities popularly known as galamsey in his jurisdiction.
The order, effective January 5, 2025, mandates that mining companies vacate their sites and remove all equipment by 6 PM the same day.
The Omanhene emphasized that no one had received authorization to mine in the area and that companies must restore the land to its original state.
Non-compliance will result in severe consequences.
This move supports national efforts to combat illegal mining, which has caused significant environmental damage in Ghana.
The Omanhene called for local support to protect the community’s natural resources.
