Professor Ransford Gyampo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Shippers Authority, has reaffirmed his commitment to urging the government, of which he is a part, to honor its pledge to suspend illegal mining (galamsey).
Prior to the 2024 elections, political parties signed an agreement with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to tackle galamsey within three months of taking office.
Following the NDC’s victory, UTAG reminded the new government of this commitment. In a social media post, Prof Gyampo highlighted the recovering Ankobra River as evidence of nature's ability to heal if galamsey is stopped.
He emphasized that while holding a government position, he will continue to press the administration to fulfill its promise, stressing the importance of protecting water and the environment.
