Small-Scale Miners slams excavator burnings, calls for fairer approach to galamsey

The National Concerned Association of Small-Scale Miners, Ghana (NCASMG) has condemned the Forestry Commission’s recent practice of burning excavators, calling it illegal, ineffective, and damaging to both livelihoods and the national economy.

In a press release, NCASMG emphasized that destroying mining equipment has worsened economic hardship and caused job losses, undermining small-scale miners who rely on these tools for survival.

The association criticized the government’s approach, calling for an immediate halt to the burnings and an investigation into potential corruption within the Forestry Commission.

NCASMG also highlighted concerns over selective law enforcement and political bias, urging fair treatment of all miners and the repurposing of confiscated equipment for land reclamation.
