Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has launched the government’s Blue Water Initiative with the training of 460 Blue Water Guards to safeguard the country’s water bodies from illegal mining.

The four-day training marks the first phase of a nationwide plan to deploy 2,000 guards for round-the-clock monitoring of polluted water resources.

Describing the fight against illegal mining as “a crisis of our lifetime,” the minister stressed the urgent need for proactive measures to protect Ghana’s vital water bodies for future generations.
