Galamsey fight: Court adjourns assault case on JoyNews crew

The Bekwai Circuit Court is hearing a case involving six employees of Edelmetallum Resources Limited accused of assaulting JoyNews journalists investigating illegal mining at Manso Asumenya in the Ashanti Region. Five other suspects are still at large.

The accused allegedly abducted and brutally attacked Erastus Asare Donkor and his team on October 20, 2024, detaining them in a forest after they refused to delete footage of mining-related destruction.

The journalists suffered injuries, and equipment worth GH₵35,000 was stolen, though some items were returned.

All six defendants pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.

The next hearing is scheduled for January 14, 2025, as prosecutors prepare witness statements.

Police arrested the suspects after the journalists filed a complaint.
