Kennedy Osei Nyarko, MP for Akyem Swedru, has locked his Facebook profile after being accused of acquiring state land in Cantonments at an undervalued price.
Chairman of the Oral Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, revealed that the MP secured a 99-year lease in 2021 for GHS 42,000 (US$2,800) instead of the prevailing market price of US$700,000–US$800,000.
Documents from the Lands Commission indicate the annual ground rent was set at GHS 10,500 between 2021 and 2024. Ablakwa criticized the deal as part of systemic corruption during the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, labeling it a "state capture."
Nyarko, known for his active social media presence, reportedly locked his profile to avoid public backlash.
Ablakwa emphasized the importance of protecting public assets and called for reforms, including mandatory parliamentary approval and audits for state property transactions, to curb corruption.
ORAL (Operation Retrieve Assets Looted) has gained support as a key anti-corruption initiative.
