Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has dismissed claims that Foreign Minister-designate Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was secretly vetted during the ministerial screening on January 30.
Appearing before a committee on February 5, Agbodza clarified that Ablakwa’s vetting had been scheduled but was delayed due to disruptions the previous day, including the unexpected appearance of social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
He explained that the committee had to merge pending nominees from January 29 with those scheduled for January 30, leading to tensions between the Majority and Minority.
The standoff resulted in the temporary suspension of four MPs, later overturned by Speaker Alban Bagbin. Agbodza insisted that Ablakwa’s vetting followed due process and was not an attempt to sidestep parliamentary rules.
