Ahiafor defends Bagbin’s suspension of MPs amid chaos

Bernard Ahiafor, First Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Appointments Committee, has backed Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to suspend four MPs following a violent disruption in Parliament.

The incident on January 31 led to damaged furniture and microphones after the Minority resisted the vetting process.

Ahiafor explained that the Speaker, in such instances, had the authority to make decisions without needing external evidence, much like a judge in a courtroom.

A seven-member committee, established to investigate the chaos, will hold public hearings and recommend sanctions.

MPs involved in the destruction will be financially liable for repairs, with public funds not used for the damages.
