The Minerals Commission has updated its records, revealing that 318 mining-related licenses were granted in the last week of former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure—far exceeding the 102 initially reported.
This brings the total number of licenses issued in 2025 to 328, with only 10 granted under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration so far.
The revision also increases the total active mining-related licenses in Ghana to 2,246.
Additionally, the number of licenses issued during Akufo-Addo’s eight-year presidency has been adjusted to 2,147, up from the previously reported 2,037.
The latest data raises further scrutiny over the scale of mining approvals in the final days of the former administration.
