'Bawku deserves peace' - Minority calls for depoliticisation as conflict escalates

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has issued a strong call for the immediate depoliticisation of the escalating Bawku conflict, urging a unified, nationalistic approach to restore peace.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, he described the situation as a full-blown humanitarian and security crisis, with children unable to attend school, and essential workers—including teachers and health professionals—refusing postings due to fear.

Fordjour warned that the conflict has dangerously shifted, with civilians now attacking security forces. He stressed that ongoing armed confrontations between youth and police could spiral into national catastrophe.

The MP urged all political actors to refrain from blame games and divisive rhetoric, calling instead for focus on disarmament and curbing the flow of military-grade weapons fueling the violence.

“The people of Bawku deserve peace, not politics,” he stated, pledging the Minority’s full support for any sincere, bipartisan peace initiative.
