Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is leading a top-tier team to Bawku following violent unrest that has left one person dead and five others, including security officers, injured.

The violence reignited on April 10 after youth allegedly torched the home of Bawku Central MP and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, in Wiidi.

This followed earlier clashes with law enforcement linked to the alleged police killing of Fuseini Iddrisu. Initial calm, restored by a joint police-military operation, was shattered when the MP’s residence was attacked—first with stones, then with fire.

The IGP’s visit aims to assess the situation, console victims’ families, and support affected officers.

The police pledged ongoing collaboration with the military, traditional authorities, and stakeholders to stabilize Bawku amid escalating tensions rooted in a deep-seated chieftaincy conflict.
