The imposition of a 6 PM to 6 AM curfew on Walewale by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has sparked political and public backlash.
The curfew, allegedly introduced due to security concerns linked to the Bawku conflict, has been criticized by Walewale MP Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru of the NPP, who describes it as politically motivated and lacking local consultation.
He argues that security should focus on targeted interventions rather than broad restrictions on civilians.
Protests erupted in response, with angry youth vandalizing the official vehicle of North East Regional Minister Ibrahim Tia.
While the government insists the curfew is necessary, critics say it exacerbates tensions rather than addressing underlying security concerns in the region.
