The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has initiated steps to resolve the longstanding chieftaincy conflict in Bawku, Upper East Region.

On February 14, 2025, he met with the Mamprusi leadership at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, following an earlier discussion with Ghana’s Defence and Interior Ministers.

Government officials believe a combination of security measures and traditional mediation can help restore peace.

Otumfuo, known for his key role in resolving the Dagbon crisis, is expected to use his influence to address the Bawku tensions.

The conflict, mainly between the Kusasis and Mamprusis, has deep historical and political roots, leading to repeated violence and casualties.

His intervention raises hopes for a peaceful resolution in the troubled area.
