Parliament reconvenes today after marathon of demands

After a series of requests, Parliament will reconvene today, December 16, 2024, following the December 7 general elections.

The announcement was made in a notice issued by Speaker Alban Bagbin on December 2.

The reconvening marks the beginning of the seventh meeting of the fourth session of the eighth parliament.

This session comes after a significant election in which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) experienced its worst parliamentary defeat since 1992.

Earlier, NPP Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin had requested Parliament’s return on November 28 and 29 to address urgent matters, but Speaker Bagbin held off until after the elections.

Seating arrangements in the House will be adjusted after January 6, 2025.
