A peace ceremony between students of Bawku Senior High School and Bawku Technical Institute erupted into violence, leaving at least five students severely injured.
The ritual, led by traditional leaders in Bawku’s Kpalwega suburb, aimed to end long-standing hostilities between the schools.
However, tensions flared during the symbolic burial of an okra stick meant to signify unity, leading to stone-pelting and chaos.
Police intervened swiftly, and the injured were taken to local hospitals.
Despite the disruption, school authorities and the Ghana Education Service (GES) ensured the ritual was completed with the involvement of senior prefects, signaling hope for reconciliation.
