President John Dramani Mahama is set to meet Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on January 19 as part of ongoing efforts to secure lasting peace in Bawku, Upper East Region.
Following a critical visit to Bawku and Nalerigu on January 14, President Mahama underscored his commitment to resolving the region’s protracted conflict.
During discussions with Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II, overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, Mahama appealed for restraint and patience from all parties involved.
He highlighted previous mediation efforts, recalling consultations with former President Nana Akufo-Addo and the pivotal roles played by Otumfuo, the late Yagbonwura, and others in resolving the Dagbon conflict.
Mahama’s upcoming dialogue with Otumfuo is expected to draw lessons from past successes to chart a path toward peace in Bawku.
