Samuel George orders immediate shutdown of Gumah FM over security concerns

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has directed the immediate closure of Gumah FM in Bawku following security concerns raised by the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

The decision, based on intelligence reports, alleges that the station has been used to incite violence and disrupt public order.

The shutdown is enforced under Section 13(1)(e) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which allows the National Communications Authority (NCA) to revoke frequencies for national security reasons.

The Ministry has also warned against using alternative platforms to fuel tensions.

In a statement on February 18, the government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding national security and urged media outlets to operate responsibly.
