Two children have tragically succumbed to malnutrition in Bawku Municipality, where 65 cases have been recorded in 2024, reflecting the worsening humanitarian crisis in the conflict-ridden area.
Bawku Municipal Health Nutrition Officer, Bathomio Asigri, attributes the rise in malnutrition to the ongoing conflict, which has disrupted livelihoods and hindered access to basic necessities.
He highlighted a sharp increase in cases from 297 in 2023, with children and pregnant women among the most affected.
Efforts to combat malnutrition are constrained by the persistent violence, making aid delivery challenging.
Health authorities are calling for urgent interventions to improve nutrition and healthcare access, warning of dire consequences if the crisis is not addressed swiftly.
