Attorney-General deems Mike Oquaye’s 2020 vacant seat ruling unconstitutional

Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has argued that former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye’s 2020 ruling, which declared the Fomena MP seat vacant, was unconstitutional.

Dame stressed that unconstitutional actions do not become valid by repetition.

Notably, Speaker Bagbin opted out of defending the suit, with no legal representation or filings submitted on his behalf.

The seven-member Supreme Court panel, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, proceeded with the case based on submissions by the plaintiff, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and the Attorney-General.
