Rockson-Nelson Defeamekpor, MP for South Dayi, has advised Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to seek Supreme Court interpretation regarding Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to decline a request to recall Parliament.
Defeamekpor explained on Joy FM’s Top Story that Bagbin’s decision, based on Article 296 of the Constitution, involved exercising discretion tied to constitutional duties.
He noted that if the Majority Leader disputes the Speaker’s judgment, the Supreme Court is the proper avenue for resolution.
This follows Bagbin’s rejection of a request to reconvene Parliament for urgent government business, stating that the House would resume after the December 7 elections to finalize outstanding matters.
Defeamekpor cautioned against frequent court interventions, stressing that constitutional officeholders often act within their discretionary powers.
