Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has opposed Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s request to recall Parliament ahead of the December 7 elections, calling it ill-timed and a waste of taxpayer resources.
In a memo to Speaker Alban Bagbin, Dr. Forson argued that no urgent government business justifies reconvening the House with only 11 days to the polls.
He suggested that Parliament reconvene after the elections to resolve ongoing issues.
He highlighted past recalls this year where “urgent” government business was abandoned and emphasized the need to focus on ensuring peaceful and credible elections.
This comes amidst a recent Supreme Court ruling overturning Speaker Bagbin’s declaration of vacant parliamentary seats, restoring the NDC to Minority status and reinforcing the need for future discussions on parliamentary stalemates.
