Parliamentary disruption is a self-inflicted wound – Speaker’s lawyer criticises Supreme Court plaintiff’s actions

Thaddeus Sory Thaddeus Sory

Thaddeus Sory, lawyer for Speaker Alban Bagbin, has sharply criticized a plaintiff’s case against Bagbin at the Supreme Court.

Using vivid allegories, Sory likened the plaintiff’s efforts to a bat urinating upwards—a futile act—and compared their persistence to Sisyphus’ endless struggle.

He highlighted the irony of the plaintiff celebrating a court ruling as a democratic win, only to later seek the Speaker’s intervention to recall Parliament.

Sory defended Bagbin, noting the disputed parliamentary precedent had been used without controversy by a former Speaker. He also accused the plaintiff of hypocrisy, citing their opposition to Bagbin while demanding to represent him in court.

Sory urged accountability, dismissing the plaintiff’s actions as misguided and counterproductive.
