The ongoing impasse in Ghana’s Parliament has drawn criticism from North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who called it "needless and regrettable."
He blamed the confusion on the Majority Caucus, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for resisting Speaker Alban Bagbin's ruling declaring four seats vacant.
This resistance, Ablakwa argued, undermines parliamentary authority and distracts from pressing national issues.
The controversy began when the Speaker ruled the seats vacant after their MPs opted to run as independents in December’s elections.
The NPP challenged this in the Supreme Court, which overturned the ruling in a 5-2 decision.
Despite the verdict, Bagbin has yet to recall Parliament, intensifying the deadlock as critical legislative work remains stalled.
