The New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament has clarified that their memo to Speaker Alban Bagbin, requesting the House be recalled, was discretionary and did not invoke any constitutional provision.
Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu, emphasized that the memo only sought to give the Speaker the option to reconvene Parliament based on his judgment, relying on Parliament's Standing Orders.
The NPP's request aims to address urgent government matters before the end of November.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus, led by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has opposed the recall, arguing that the request fails to meet constitutional requirements.
Iddrisu dismissed the NDC’s objections, asserting that MPs should prioritize their duties in Parliament over campaign activities as the elections approach.
