Members of Parliament (MPs) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were the first to occupy the majority side in Parliament on Monday, December 16, as the House reconvened after nearly two months of political stalemate.

The NPP caucus reclaimed the right-hand side of the Speaker, a position previously occupied by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs during the last two sittings, while the NDC claimed they were the majority.

First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Wusu, affirmed that the NPP MPs had resumed their rightful place, stating, “The eighth parliament will continue as it started in 2021.”

Meanwhile, NDC MPs were absent from the chamber.

Osei-Wusu noted that some MPs, particularly those defeated in the recent elections, might be demoralized, explaining low attendance.
