The Supreme Court has struck out a review application challenging its earlier ruling on the constitutionality of Parliament’s passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, widely known as the anti-gay bill.
The move followed the withdrawal of the application by Richard Dela Sky, represented by lawyer Paa Kwasi Abaidoo, during the hearing on February 26, 2025.
A nine-member review panel, led by Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, dismissed the case but expressed displeasure over Sky’s absence.
While Chief State Attorney Sylvia Adisu pushed for costs against him, some justices, including Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, opposed it, citing public interest.
The bill, passed by Parliament on February 28, 2024, seeks to criminalize LGBTQI+ advocacy and support, sparking heated national debate on cultural values versus human rights.
