John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to back the private member’s bill criminalizing LGBTQ+ activities instead of introducing a separate government-sponsored version.
His remarks follow Mahama’s recent announcement of ongoing consultations with the Speaker of Parliament to reintroduce the Proper Family Values Bill.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on February 28, Ntim Fordjour emphasized that the bill has already been reintroduced in Parliament by MPs and is awaiting deliberation.
He urged the President to support the existing bill, suggesting that any necessary additions could be made later.
He also warned against undermining private member-sponsored bills, stressing that Parliament is an independent body that must not be dictated to by the executive.
