Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has reiterated the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) unwavering stance on the Anti-Gay Bill, affirming that the party’s position remains unchanged since the elections.
This follows President John Mahama’s suggestion that a government-sponsored bill could foster broader national consensus compared to the current Private Member’s Bill.
Addressing the issue, Ayariga explained on Channel One TV that legislative proposals not finalized during a specific Parliament’s tenure are typically deemed lapsed.
He further clarified that the NDC has consistently supported the bill and dismissed any notion of a policy shift.
Meanwhile, Speaker Alban Bagbin has pledged to ensure the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly called the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, becomes law in 2025.
